Android has changed the game

Apple has to rethink its strategy for the iPhone with the new dynamics of both Google Android and RIM's BlackBerry entering the Smartphone mobile arena with a new open approach. We lamented "Jobs not done well" in our HubPages in July. This is a tongue-in-cheek rebuke of the great man, Steve Jobs, missing his footing. We predicted his closed approach to technology would not be supported by the market as soon as the iPhone honeymoon was over. But we never predicted just how quickly the iPhone honeymoon would end. In our hub blog "Apple's past mistakes repeated with iPhone" we see that Android is out-shipping the iPhone, and echoes a sentiment that asks, "Is Droid the New IPhone?".

Android is now the Number One OS for smartphones shipment in the USA and Number 3 in the world. Our Hub (Apples Mistakes - above) suggest a couple of reason; the invisible army of 3rd part developers and suppliers that have embraced the open platform along with consumers who simple want a device can access the entire web are key.

Apple should look to the past to see the future in iPhones. We are sure that they will and we look forward to a renewed open platform, consumer-focused iPhone strategy from Apple.

The Apple team is a creative group who dares to be different. We should remember that they gave us Windows long before MS borrowed the idea. They gave us the smartphone when no one else came close to imagining the world of flip, touch and simple in the way that Apple did with the iPhone, the iPod Touch and the iPad.

It just needs to be more open!

will smartphone replace laptops and change the web

Is the future of Web, as we know it, at stake?

I have heard the rumours that smartphone are the new laptops. 30% of smartphone users use their iPhone, Android or other smartphone, to connect to their offices. 37% occasionally or frequently leave their laptops at home and rely 100% on their smartphone on the road. Many use it to browse the Net. InformationWeek

Strategically Smart

Alexander Wolfe of InformationWeek notes many fortune 500 companies are deploying Smartphone Strategies: General Motors, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dreyer's Grand Ice Cream, Astra Tech, Oracle, Saleforce, and Sybase use smartphones strategically. 50 field reps of Grand Ice cream use their Palm Treo to access the company's database.

When Mobiles Replace Laptop

We need to make some distinctions: an IPhone, an Android phone, the new BlackBerry Torch are Smartphone that can, and probably will, replace the laptop for a large number of uses. But they don't replace them now! Many mobile devices already replace laptops for emailing and messaging, but what is missing is a display capable of browsing company websites, a destination site and any website that has rich information, Flash and graphics. Hotels and hotel and tourism sites with booking engines, videos and rich information cannot be easily configured for the smartphone screen. But this is changing on two fronts: Screens are getting bigger, as in DriodX 4.3", and websites are getting smarter.

Migration Full Steam Ahead

There are many developments underway that can quickly make the Smartphone Mobile a universal product. AXSES will soon launch its Mobile Hotel Booking Engine- a standard web aplication able to run on the iPhone, etc. There are technology companies developing smart converters that can help hotel and tourism operators deploy a Smartphone Mobile-readable version of a traditional websites.

AXSES has arcRes Smart Publisher that will create a rich text website from the information in arcRes Bookings Engine and Content Management system. This merges with the arcRes Facebook application that loads and manages content and bookings onto Facebook. And, of course, Facebook has its Smartphone app which will display the Facebook content loaded in by arcRes. And so many Online Travel agents, Web2.0 services and techology vendors will deploy Smartphone Versions of the products (hotel rooms and activities) they sell. The temptation for small hotels may be to leave it to others, but many will prefer to maintain Integrity and control over their own brands and use services that are integrated with their brand.

If you are thinking of you iPhone, Android, Smartphone-mobile brand, consider AXSES Hotel and tourism Marketing Strategies for iPhones/Smartphones. This is a sound, painless 3-phased approach for creating a branded website and direct marketing strategies for the new mobile market.

The future is merging quicker that we think and its not because of apps
see HubPage The new Website as app

This argument that the iPhone and Android all need apps is, in my mind a complete, fallacay; the real opportunity for smartphones is to read the web and, as we move to doing that, they will become the next generation of computing. At that time, and it is already happening, the World Wide Web will become phone-cenrtic, morphing into service-concise information. It is already happening. It is why Twitter, with its 140 words, is popular. Even without the constraints of display size we are already moving to immediate burst for communication.

Small is how we cope with the world archives at our finger tips
